Bees Knees Lacquer The World and Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer Siren's a Special Snowflake

Apparently magnetic polishes are the hot, new trend (for some people, at least) and I can see why.  There is just something so alluring about the shiftiness of the magnetized particles.  This particular polish, Bees Knees The World, is a teal base sprinkled with scattered holo, gold to green magnetic shimmer, purple to pink shimmer and iridescent flakes.  It certainly has a lot going on; I feel that the holo is a bit unnecessary and detracts a bit from the lovely contrast of the shimmer and flakies.  Nevertheless, it is a stunning polish and I especially love it in the shade when the flakies are more prominent.  It is also quite interesting mattified, but, unfortunately I don't have a picture of that.
It covered nicely in two coats and I added some top coat for extra shine.

My friend Caitlin snagged me The World from Indie Expo Canada back in June (I am totally going next year) and I am so glad that I pestered her to be my polish fairy.  I will definitely wear this again, which is a major feat when you are a polish addict.  ;)

Caitlin was also sweet enough to lend me a glitterbomb (among a zillion other polishes) she thought I'd like and she was right!  Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer Siren's a Special Snowflake is a gold/black/holo glitter polish that complements the golden magnetic shimmer in The World perfectly.  I used three thin coats and one coat of top coat.  It's still a bit textured, but that is to be expected from glitter polishes like this.  I love it anyway.

Do you have any recent acquisitions that you love?

Nail Hoot Hang onto Your Diapers, Babies and Ever After Opal of My Eye

Hello!  It's been a whirlwind few weeks here, with the end of the school year and the beginning of summer.  Already, we've:

* visited our in-laws' beach house
* fished and canoed in their creek
* canoodled with all the cousins at a local zoo/park/splash pad
* spent the day at lovely Turkey Point
* enjoyed a BBQ for charity with hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts
* visited a friend's house at the lake and spent all day swimming and, of course
* stuffed ourselves with ice cream any chance we can

I've changed my mani several times, but haven't posted anything since I'm so pooped at the end of the day.  Well, the kids are playing outside now with some friends, thus I'm taking the opportunity to share a mani I loved wearing.

I plucked Nail Hoot, Hang onto Your Diapers, Babies from my untried pile; I always gravitate towards aqua polishes. :)  This one was special as it has tiny gold (copper) speckles and shimmer and a smattering of holo.  It covered nicely in two coats and one of topcoat.

And what goes better with aqua than an accent of shiny gold?  There is a lot going on in Ever After Opal of My Eye: iridescent flakies, holographic glitter, and shimmer, but it all works together nicely and gives you a blingy mani!.   This polish is quite sheer, but three thin coats almost reaches opacity.  It is so shiny and shifty, though, that you don't really notice that it is not fully opaque.  I've heard that others have layered this over a gold polish; I might try that in the future.

It's almost lunch time now; I should probably stop drooling at my nails and feed my kids.
Happy Summer!

My Indie Polish skittles

I am so lucky to have a polish bestie who is also a close friend in real life.  Caitlin, the talent behind Streets Ahead Style, has now been my friend for almost four years (when Lana was a wee bean in my tummy).  Though I moved three years ago, we've kept in touch and made it a point to meet up for lunch/tea dates when our schedules allow.  There, we guzzle chai lattes, peruse the racks of Winners, share what is happening in our lives and, of course, swap/play with polish.  :)

The following thermal polishes are but a few of the polishes that Caitlin lent me during our last date.  They are the first My Indie Polishes that I've tried and probably won't be the last.  They all applied creamily in two coats and transitioned colours quickly.  The blue-to-chartreuse even has fine shimmer, which is a nice touch.

Tonic Ru and Tonic Divine

Good afternoon!

I’ve got two beauties for you today: Tonic Ru and Tonic Divine.  Both are magnetic polishes that appear murky (read: grey) in the bottle, but come alive on the nails with aqua to blue  (Ru) or purple to magenta (Divine) shimmer.  The shimmer also shifts to golden green at certain angles, as you can see in the first picture of Divine.

These polishes are also enhanced with linear holo pigment, which some say makes the polish too complicated.  I am not of that camp; one can never have enough holo in polish!

The magnetic line is not very pronounced on my nails as I’m new to magnetics and my skills are lacking. I did order a stronger magnet, though, so that may help!  It should be here any day now.  :)

It is rainy and cool today. A good day to snuggle up with a blanket and some coffee. I think I might do that now (I wish.  I have a three year old to mind). :)  I hope you have a good one, whatever you do.

Blush Lacquer Waterlilies at Dusk

I don’t have much to say about this polish, but that is only because a) its beauty speaks for itself and b) it applied like a dream (like all the Blush Lacquers I’ve tried).
Waterlilies at Dusk is a multichrome holo polish that shifts from blue to purple to pink to gold.  The linear holo is strong and the tiny shifty flakies add just a little extra oomph to this polish.  It covered beautifully (I love the Blush brush) in two coats and dried quickly. Simply perfection in a bottle.

This polish is not available as it was a limited release, but do head to the Blush website to view the available beauties.

Good night beauties!

Tonic Skittlette

Hello again.  One post yesterday and one today.  I am a busy beaver.  :)

Last week I wore this mani and I love, love, LOVED it!  Tonic Marilyn (red) and Novitiate are pretty in the bottle, but stunning on the nail.  There is a glow to them that just doesn’t translate in the bottle or on camera; you’ll have to trust me that they are even more gorgeous.  Novitiate’s shimmer shifts from turquoise to purple, which makes the polish quite dusty looking at times. Very unique.

Both polishes reached opacity in two coats.  Any streaks during application disappeared when the polish dried.  Phew.

I used Verklempt as an accent nail.  It is a silver linear holo slightly tinted blue with the most amazing shifting flakies.  I hope Lindsay comes out with a rainbow of holos with these flakies! 😜

I will definitely be revisiting these shades in the future, especially in the summer.  Enjoy your day!

Blush Lacquer You Don’t Take Art

I’ve got another beauty (actually, two of them) for you today, Blush Lacquer You Don’t Take Art.  Art was one of the May Polish Pickup offerings and I’m glad that I chose it. It’s reminiscent of Cirque Coronation, minus the UP shimmer and holo bits.  Such a rich and glowing purple!

Tonic Divine is also a stunning polish; she looks greyish, but angle your hand and she takes on a greenish cast.   Add in the pink-purple magnetic shimmer and she’s a chameleon.  Of course, the linear holo makes her even prettier.  Unfortunately, I lack the skills in making a sharp magnetic line, but I will practice and one day it will be more pronounced for you.

Art was a one-time release and Divine is not on the Timic site at the moment, but if you feel like perusing the pretties, visit: Tonic Polish or Polish Pickup.

Have a wonderful day!
